5. Rajgir and Nalanda (photos)

Rijgir is the place where Buddha subdued the drunken elephant and is consider one of the miracle sites. Nalanda is a very famous Buddhist university in ancient times that was destroyed by the Muslim invasion of India.

Rajgir

The World Peace Pagoda on top of Mount Rajgir which was build by the Japanese.





The Japanese also build a temple on top of the mountain.


Vulture Peak, the place Buddha likes to meditiate is located somewhere halfway up the mountain which is accessible by walking.





Nalanda

As we approach the ruins of Nalanda university which was founded in the 5th century. It used to house over 1,000 teachers and over 10,000 student monks at any one time.



The ruins occupies a very large place and can take 2 to 3 hours to complete.
