Dumb And Dumber

Yesterday I did something very dumb. Currently I only experience back pain when I stretch my back. So yesterday afternoon, in my haste to improve my back, I stretch my back a little more in an exercise. The result was pain for the rest of the late afternoon and evening. Before I went to bed, I ask my wife to give me a short massage with Counterpain. Luckily when I got up this morning, the pain has disappeared. A lesson learned.

Towards the early morning, I felt very cold despite having a comforter. It was really an unusual feeling. The only time I get this type of chill is when I have fever but I checked my forehead and the temperature was normal. So as not to aggravate matters, I took a break from attending qigong lesson this morning and stayed in bed. When I got up at 7am, I was feeling much better.

This week, like last, I am having stomach gases problem. The gases build up towards late afternoon to dinner time. After the night enema, some gases would have been released and I feel much better then. I still could not figure out why is this the case. The itchiness on the hands and feet is slowly subsidising. Hopefully things would get better as the day progresses.

Another Self Potrait

I got my hair cut about a week ago. This is my present look. Still look the same, more lines on the forehead and maybe a little more meat now.

I have been making steady progress with my qigong. However, I think I did not put in much time to practice. Somehow I am so occupied in my day to day routines. Errands, food preparation, etc. Sigh...

Of late I managed to contact back some old friends, some who migrated to Australia and New Zealand and also some ex-colleagues who are now working in Saudi Arabia and UAE. Its good to hear from them.

I Am Fine, Hope You Are Too

Because I am a stage 4 kidney cancer patient, every now and then I receive calls or SMSs from my friends who wanted to know how am I faring. At this stage of the cancer, we are given very little time to live, hence the concerns from friends. So long as my body does not deteriorate, I will be doing fine. Actually I feel very good. The back pain is non noticeable unless I do stretching. Of course over time, I hope even this pain goes away. The energy levels are up. Except for occasional gases in the stomach the last few days, I can eat very well and not to mention sleep well. Oh, the itchiness on the palms and feet are still there but it looks like it is subsidising. I just ignore it. I will post another self portrait in my next post.

Yesterday I went for a show with my family. Tim Button's Alice In Wonderland is quite an entertaining version. My only complain is that some of the scenes from human to animation was not so well done, not that smooth. The Alice fighting scene with Jabberwocky was a little lame. But still it is enjoyable movie. Our next movie is How To Train a Dragon.

Earth Hour

I was doing my night enema in the dark yesterday in support of Earth Hour. This is the second year running that our whole family participated. Last year during this time, we took a tour of our neighborhood to see how many participated but this year we just stayed indoor. Some people said what can it accomplished with only one hour? It will probably take one generation for all this efforts to bear fruit. I think the fact that my kids eagerly took part meant the seeds have been planted.

Yesterday evening, I had so much gas in my stomach that I just could not eat my dinner. Tried as much as I can, I only managed to finish 50% and 15% of the stewed vegetables and potatoes respectively. So I took oat meal instead. That was one of my worst days since I started Gerson Therapy. After the night enema, I felt slightly better.

I meet up with EC yesterday afternoon. At her request the meeting was postponed from Friday. She seemed to be in high spirits. She said that besides the conventional treatment, she was trying this and that. I can relate to that because when I first found out I had cancer, I just grab on to whatever treatment that gave me hope without understanding what the treatment is all about. Of course subsequently I decided to spend more time to find out and read about alternatives that are available. She took the Taiwanese nutrition diet formula and she takes six juices with pulp made from the blender. She also performed castor oil enema. I told her from some books that I read, most of the nutrients and enzymes would be dead if juices were prepared that way. From Gerson's book, people who have undergone or worst still undergoing chemo cannot do castor oil enema. She asked me for some recommendation and this is what I suggested. She continued with her chemo which would complete in two month's time. As directed by her doctor, she would consume fish for the protein during chemo. Meanwhile to start 12 glasses of juices a day and increase dosage of Q10. To stop doing castor oil enema immediately but to start on the coffee enema once or twice a day. Upon completion of her chemo, she would undergo mastectomy. Only upon recovery from the surgery did I suggest that she commence the rest of the Gerson Therapy. I summarised the Gerson Therapy for her explaining the main areas but I told her she must read the Gerson Therapy book to understand fully. It will be easier for her to follow this therapy since she has a maid at her disposal.

Health Status @ 27 March 2010

New information are presented in italics.

Problem
Tumor mass of size of about 14cm on the right kidney and 21 and 23 over nodes all over my left and right lungs respectively with one up to 3cm in size on both lungs. Possibly also spread to the liver.

First detected on 11 September 2009 through CT Scan. Subsequent CT scan on 1 March showed some improvements on the larger nodes in the lungs but did not provide enough details on the smaller nodes. The primary tumor is now about 12.4cm, about the same size in October 2009. The two bigger nodes on the left and right lungs has reduced by about 1.5cm. However, a new node was detected about the size of 3.5cm x 3.7cm.

Prognosis
Consulted four urologist (one in Singapore and three in Malaysia) and two oncologist (one in Malaysia and one in Singapore). Both oncologist suggested removal of right kidney. Singapore urologist also suggested removal of kidney. The three urologist do not recommend surgery or chemotherapy. The last urologist consulted said most of his patients died within six months of surgery while two on the expensive (RM20K per month) drug Sutent is not responding. All agree that is no cure for the moment.

My urologist said my cancer is at stage 4 and did not recommend me to take any treatment. It is also my own choice not to take conventional treatment after considering all the facts of the case.

Schedule for next scan is in 1 September 2010.

MAIN THERAPIES
a. Modified Gerson Therapy
a1. Coffee Enema
Initially, four times a day for four weeks, every four hours apart. Currently three times a day in the morning, afternoon and evening for 15 minutes.

Commence castor oil enema from 23 January 2010.

a2. Nutrition Diet
All fruits and vegetables mentioned are organic.
i. Juicing - 12 fruit and vegetables juices a day beginning around 7am and ending 7pm. First juice is either 40% ripe papaya (with skin) or green apple, then alternating between carrot+apple and vegetables (mainly lettuce) and ending with carrot juice. Juice from 7.15am to 12.15pm and from 2pm to 7pm, every hourly.
2. Diet - No oil, no sugar and no salt on all cooking. For breakfast and supper, mainly oats with some raisins, sometimes a little Manuka honey is added. For lunch and dinner, vegetables such as Siew Pak Choy, Lettuce, lady's fingers, cauliflower, broccoli and spinach are mainly steamed or boiled. K-salt is added for flavoring. A teaspoon of flaxseed oil is added when serving (but not during cooking). Mainly boiled potatoes and sometimes somali organic brown rice is consumed. ABC or Hippocrates soup are also prepared every other day for daily consumption.
3. Supplements - K-salt, B12, niacin, lugol solution, pancreatin, pepsin and Q10.
4. Others - Rye bread, papaya, guavas, oranges and bananas are consumed at regular intervals.

b. Homeopathy Medicine
Consulting Doctor: DR AU Ramakrishnan MBBS,PhD, Chennai, India (http://www.drramakrishnan.com/)
Local Consultant: Vishuddi Lee
Treatment Started: 6 November 2009.
Consulting: Once every two months in Singapore. Next appointment 8 May 2010.
Reaction: No further reactions observed other than mouth ulcers every now and then.

COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES
c. Acupuncture Therapy
Started acupuncture on 3 March 2010. Originally to ease the back and shoulder pain. The master has however put me on a six months Chinese medication program as well. Due to itchiness reaction, the medication is suspended for the time being.

d. Oxygen Therapy
Started using a personal oxygen generator with effect from 8 March 2010 about 1 hour in the evening, 20 minutes per session. Richer oxygen does help in controlling the growth of the tumors. It also reduces fatigue.

e. Zhineng Qigong
Started practicing qigong on 11 March 2010. Attend classes five times a week from 6.30am to 8am. Need to practice at least 3 hrs per day, in between juices.

Health Status
Current weight is around 70+kgs. Back and left shoulder pain gone. Tongue ulcer makes eating difficult. Developed itchiness of hands and feet, possibly from taking of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Verdict
Week has been plagued with nauseatic feelings, otherwise a good week.

Feeling Nauseatic

My left shoulder blade and back problem is very much better now, almost no pain even when after getting up. However, when stretching the back, there is still some pain. There are still itchiness in my hands and feet. The best way to overcome it is by ignoring it because the more you massage or scratch it, the more itchy it becomes.

Last two days, I had some nausea. This came about on Wednesday morning when I was practicing my qigong. My Lao-Shi (teacher) says that it is normal to experience such phonomena when doing this qigong as the chi (energy) is flowing through the various parts of the body. Coupled with the tongue ulcer, it made things worst as eating is now much more difficult. I almost did not feel like eating. From Gerson Therpy's prespective, this could also be a healing reaction.

Slight Improvements

I still feel the itchiness on the palms of both my hands. The funny thing is the more you scratch, the itchier it becomes. Soaking in hot water is also not the answer. Same goes for the feet. Under such circumstances, its best to ignore it and it gets better.

My back and shoulder pain is easing. In fact the back pain not so pronounced now immediately after getting up. I only feel the pain if I stretch or bend the body forward too much. Just when I though I will have no ulcers for the week, another tongue ulcer appeared on the inner left side. Otherwise, I will have quite a good time.

It's still too early to tell if the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) caused some of the problems because I just stopped taking since yesterday. I will probably have to watch out for a week or two more.

Maybe You Can Help

Encouraged by the slight progress that I am making, one of my friends recommended her friend to talk to me. EC as she is called is suffering from Stage 3 breast cancer. She is currently undergoing chemo (3rd course out of a total of 8). She is also following a Taiwanese nutrition program that involves drinking of juices with pulp made from the blender. She does not take sugar but take fish for the protein. Apparently she is losing weight and also a few months pregnant. Her oncologist said she must go on a high protein diet in view of the chemo. She wanted to know Gerson Therapy better and am meeting her this Friday afternoon to explain more about the therapy.

I also had a similar experience with my oncologist at KL General. He said I should be on a high protein diet rather than on a vegan diet. Not satisfied with his recommendation, I went and see another oncologist at National University Hospital in Singapore. He recommendation was that I watch my calories intake and not necessary to have high intake of protein. He leaves it to me what diet I want to adopt. That's more like it.

As you can see, being pregnant complicates matters. Furthermore, she is still doing chemo but like my Singapore oncologist said what is most important is to ensure that the calories intake is sufficient. Where it comes from is a choice that we can make. I will have to read up a little more from the Internet and maybe write to Gerson Institute for some help as well. If you have followed Gerson Therapy and have experience in such cases, please do write to me urgently.

My left shoulder pain has subsided very much except that I feel the pain when I stretch or use the left hand to lift heavy things. However, the pain in the back is still felt when getting up from sleep but it goes away after sometime. To tackle the itchiness on my feet and hands, I have stopped taking the Tradition Chinese Medicine (TCM) starting today and observe if there are improvements. This is the only addition that I took. Prior to this, I did not experience such problems. TCM are know to have side effects. In this case I am not sure the effects are good or bad. I will consult my acupuncturist. Meanwhile I have used the Betnovate-N cream with partial success, on my feet and left hand.

Slight Swelling Of Fingers

Slightly over one week ago I felt a slight tiredness on the 3rd phalanges of my right fingers and to some extent, my left fingers too. I normally squeeze the vegetables to release the excess water before I juice them, so I thought the tiredness was possibly due to constant squeezing the fingers. Yesterday evening I also felt some itchiness on the 3rd phalanges of the first to third fingers, especially on the right hand. So I began to massage the 3rd phalanges areas of my right fingers. I noticed that as I massage the area, not only it did not bring relief to the itchiness and instead the 3rd phalanges started to swell. I then stop the massage and let the itchiness be and the swelling stopped. It started to subside later. It also happened to my left fingers. I don't know why that happened and was about to see a doctor today but since the swelling has subsided though there are still some itchiness, I will monitor it for a day or two.

A reminder to my Buddhist friends who intend to go pilgrimage this year. Although you can go pilgrimage all year round, the best time to go is between October and February when the temperature and weather is at its best. Bookings at Airasia is already opened and I noted that the prices offered for December 2010 flights are still at promotional levels. You can fly via Kolkata or New Delhi. This year, I will not be traveling. My friend and his gang (a total of 21 pax, mainly family members) has already booked their tickets. Rest assured the pilgrimage area in India is safe to travel even with children and old folks. Need further information, please let me know. I understand the recent change to the India visa exit rules will not affect third countries, meaning the 60 days re-entry rule only apply if you leave India for Malaysia.

Taking It Easy

Yesterday evening on the way to the airport, I stopped at the rest area for a pee. I noticed blood in my urine! My urine has always been clear in the daytime and this is the first time I noticed the red urine. Well, it's not that bad and there was no pain. Even in the past when there was twitches around the right abdomen, I did not urinate blood. It only happened once, subsequent urine was clear. So I am not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

I wrote a computer program for a client 19 years ago and due to changes in customer requirements, the client wants me to make some changes. Actually the change is not so difficult and during my good days, I can complete it in a few days. But these days, it seems much more difficult but still I will try because it is difficult to get a third party to maintain the software.

I did feel a little tired this morning and there was a little pain just below both shoulder blade area, not sure if it was from yesterday's "hard" work. Well the task may look simple, but for me, its a herculean task. I sure miss my healthy body. Everything I do, it just takes so much extra efforts. By mid morning, the pain was gone. My left shoulder pain is also subsidising. I am taking it a little easy since today is castor oil enema day.

The qigong that I am learning now is beginning to tire me out. Even though the hands, body and leg movements are not that physical, the fact the I need to hold them in certain positions for long period of time repeatedly caused the strain. My Lao-Shi has showed great concern for me and helping me as much as he could and at the end of each session, he would remind me, please practice, especially the La-Chi exercise. Like most things, people can only show the way but it is up to me to strive on.

Busy Weekend

My left shoulder pain is slowly subsiding, almost not noticeable unless I stretch my back muscles. Every morning when I get up, there is only slight back pain and it wears off after some sit-up exercises. These days, I feel quite good. My energy levels has improved and even when sitting on hard surface my buttocks are complaining less. I am getting used to the potatoes diet and look forward to weekends when I eat my tomatoes brown rice noodles soup.

I spend sometime on repairs and maintenance this week end. I repaired the bed planks that is used to support the mattress. I don't know how my eldest daughter managed to break them. I took about half an hour to saw the replacement planks and nailed them back. The good news is that I did not feel tired after the tasks. This was a vast improvement compared to the time I was trimming the plants and I was already half dead panting for air just after 15 minutes of work and it took two days to recover. Hopefully my bones will not ache tomorrow.

I got to prepare dinner early today and pack some juices as I need to go to LCCT to pick-up my wife and daughters. They are back from Surabaya after a four days free and easy trip. Although I have been there before (16 years ago), it would be good to go back and see how things are today. The highlight of the trip is to see to Komodo dragons in the Zoo without having to go to Komodo island itself. I hope they managed to climb Mount Bromo too.

So Far So Good

I think my back pain may not be due to the sleeping posture that I once thought. Sometime in mid January, this back pain started and then on 1 March a CT scan revealed a new node around the T6 area. This would explain the back pain. Had it been a sleeping posture pain, it should have long disappeared. How can on one hand the large lungs nodes get smaller and at the same time a new node appear? The most logical answer is that in December 2009 during my trip in India, I suspended the Gerson Therapy for 9 days and went on a normal vegan diet (i.e. with sugar, salt & oil). There was no back pain before the trip. Anyway the consolation is that the pain is not getting worst but subsiding. Otherwise I feel quite good actually.

You might be wondering if the results in the Huaxia Zhineng Qigong Centre is so good why not go there for treatment? Well the thought did occur but it cannot be carried out. Recently, due to change in China on the political stance by the Chinese government (this was partly due to their clash with the Falun Gong movement which is now outlawed in China), it illegal for any qigong group larger than 100 people to gather for practice (the exception to this is t'ai chi which is considered a martial art by the government). As a result the Clinic was closed down. Some of the masters however, emigrated to Malaysia and many others formed smaller groups all over China. So I will learn from the Masters in Malaysia. You can contact the Malaysian Zhineng Qigong Association at 603-92822011 should you need to buy the instruction VCDs (in Mandarin) if there is no group near you.

Zhineng or Chi-Lel Qigong

As I read the 1995 book, 101 Miracles of Natural Healing by Luke Chan that was loaned to me by my Lao-shi (teacher), I could not help wonder if the Chi-Lel qigong is so effective? You see, there are hundreds if not thousand types of qigong out there. However, Chi-Lel or Zhineng Qigong was named the most effective health-enhancing qigong by the Chinese Sports Bureau and currently over 10 million people practices it. That author of that book interviewed over 100 patients to get their stories on how Chi-Lel healed cancer, diabetes, arthritis, paralysis, heart disease, severe depression, systemic lupus and many other chronic illness at the Huaxia Zhineng Qigong Clinic & Training Center that has over 4,000 patients, teachers and doctors. That clinic does not use any medicines and yet many are healed!

I do get a lot of motivation from reading the book. I am quite lucky to have found so many practitioners here in Subang Jaya and only pay RM20 (US$6) per month to learn. In particular, my Lao-shi is really a very kind and patient man, giving special attention to teach me individually each morning. Because of that I am also under pressure to remember the sequences of the moves. Of course the more difficult part now for me is to find the time and practice. I am now adjusting to this new schedule to include practice sessions and hopefully I can squeeze out 3 hours a day to practice.

Everybody can and should practice. Those who are sick, Chi-Lel will assist in the healing and those who are not sick will have their health enhanced. I hope to be able to share more so that those who have no access to the teachers or centers around their area can also learn. Can I as a beginner teach? No I am not teaching but just narrating what the teacher taught me. Chi-Lel is known to be very effective and can produce results in a few months after practicing.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying you stopped all the therapies that you are currently doing. In fact many of the patients that have recovered continued with surgery and/or chemotherapy while practicing Chi-Lel at the same time.

Blue Skies And Everything Nice

I got some calls, SMSs and email from friends and ex-colleagues asking me how I am faring. My back pain below the left and right shoulder blades are still lingering and it get worst after I wake up from sleep. It does not disturb my day to day activities and the pain is only felt if the muscles around that area are stretched. Well, I feel really good both physically and psychologically. Much better than in the early days when I started the therapy.

Someone once asked me how I managed to stay so positive despite my condition? My answer is simple. I already know the end, anything positive actions I do, my results will always positive. So whatever I do, I do the best I can. No need to fret and worry about this or that. Live in the present.

Today I will share a little about the qigong that I am learning. There are many types of qigong (founded over 5,000 years ago) in China and the one that I am practicing is called Che Lel. Yes some people said they took years to master qigong and what so different about this one? What is interesting about this qigong is that one can learn the methods very quickly and start practicing and reaping the results in days instead of years. I am not saying this qigong will guarantee to heal. This also does not mean one should stop whatever therapy one is doing. Rather, this is complementary therapy that will assist in the healing. Let me try and report the results.

Just Another Day

My thighs are now a little painful from the squatting exercises that I did in yesterday's qigong exercise. Although the exercises are not strenuous, it does require lots of patience and stamina. Today I continued with some exercises that can help in the cancer therapy. My Master keeps on reminding me not to think anything when doing the exercise except to concentrate on the exercise. As all the instructions are given in Mandarin, I have a little difficulty in some body parts which are not used commonly. During the exercise routine, we are requite to think about certain body at certain point in time. My Master has been kind enough to give me a drawing explaining the various points in English and Mandarin. He will also loan me a book in English so that I can understand it better. As part of my fees, I got a exercise tape and also a DVD showing the moves in case I forgot. I also got to see my China Grandmaster for the first time.

I have been eating like a pig for the last few days. I get so hungry at times and I just ate and ate. The result is I gained 1kg. I am not complaining but so far everything is normal. The shoulder pain is not that painful but is still lingering. Since I am now waking up at 6am, I have sort of changed my routine a little. By 11.30am I would finished my morning juices and thereafter I take lunch by 12 noon. After lunch I take a nap to 2pm and start my afternoon juicing. I don't feel so tired with this arrangement.

Another Time, Indonesia

I have decided not to take the trip to Indonesia on 18 March 2010. I booked this trip 11 months ago last year with a view to visit some temples and climb Mount Bromo. Well Indonesia will have to wait for the time being. However, I have asked my wife not to waste the tickets and so she and my two daughters will travel but with a slight change in plan. They will not visit Mount Bromo. The decision not to go is to focus on my therapies.

Other than the lingering back and left shoulder pain, it's business as usual. Currently I buy fresh vegetables everyday and I will be making a change and buy vegetables for two days supply. This will allow me more time to practice qigong. With effect from this week, I have scaled down my coffee enema to three times a day. I noticed during the last two weeks, my second enema which is normally taken 3 hours after the first is not effective. The enema is easy to take, no spasm and sometimes I even fall asleep during the enema. The discharge is also not smelly.

This morning is my first qigong session under Master Soo. He has urged me to be diligent in practicing qigong. I learned two additional exercises this morning but could only remember one. The first one was rather long and I only remember some parts of it. Hopefully I will be able to remember the remainder in tomorrow's practice. Although not physically demanding, the exercises are tiring. I consider myself lucky as the Master was very willing to teach and patient with me. Now I really appreciate my able body during good times. At times like this, your body do not respond so efficiently.

Too Much Softness Causes Back Pain

I am quite convinced that my back pain is due to the 2" top layer rubber padding. My main mattress is made of coconut husk and I like the firmness. However, my present condition requires a little softness and the top layer which I just added only two weeks ago is now giving me the back ache. The ache develops even after just 20 minutes of sleep. I observed that when I take naps at my mother's place, I don't have back problems. She also uses coconut husks mattress (different brand from mine) but with a thin layer of soft padding built in. So what I will now do is to remove the 2" top layer padding and use a 1" padding instead. Hopefully, this padding is soft enough and yet will not cause my back to ache. If that fails, I will just buy the same brand mattress as my mother's.

Today my wife and I are trying to make another variation of the rye bread. We have successfully made the 80:20 rye wheat flour bread. The only complain was that the bread did not rise enough. Today we will try 70:30 variation. I will publish the recipe next week.

Remember the case of Mama S? Well I met her daughter today to hand over the supplements that I bought for her in Singapore and I was informed that she is now eagerly drinking the juices. However, she mistakenly use K-salt as salt replacement using spoonfuls of it in her food resulting in her getting some skin irritations. This is the problem when the children do not read the documentation. I have told them specifically to mix with 1 liter of distilled water and then use 2 teaspoons but it must have fallen to deaf ears. So this time round, I got extracted summarised documentation on how to use the supplements, forbidden food and healing reactions so that they can follow as closely as possible without having to read the Gerson Therapy book. This is her last chance now that conventional medication has failed on her.

More Therapies Does Not Mean Good

As I move in to the seventh month of my therapy, I have introduced a number of new complementary therapies to assist in the recovery. My wife have reminded me to stop monitoring and start living. I have lived past the expectations of my urologists and so far so good. So instead of getting suspicious of a little pain here and there and keep on monitoring my weight, I will just let it be unless it is something major.

Due to the strict regime of the Gerson therapy, most of my activities revolve around it. More therapies will compete for time and this is not necessarily good. So far the therapies that I used can all fit it nicely. However, for qigong I need to invest more time to first learn about it by attending classes. Subsequently it should be easier to fit into the schedule. I have decided to attend morning classes instead of evening classes because it clashes with my homeopathy medication time. My homeopathy requires taking of medication every 15 minutes for 2.5hrs continuously. So it would be difficult to do qigong at the same time. Doing qigong in the morning will mean I will lose 1 hr of sleep, so I will have to compensate by taking a 1 hour nap every day just after lunch. Hopefully this arrangement will not be too taxing on my part. I will adjust as I go along.

Health Status @ 13 March 2010

I have started a number of complementary therapies.

The last urologist consulted said most of his patients died within six months of surgery while two on the drug Sutent is not responding.

Currently increased back to four times a day in the morning, afternoon and evening for 15 minutes.

Juice from 7.45am to 12.45pm and from 2pm to 7pm, every hourly.
Somali organic brown rice is consumed and sometime potatoes are also used.

The master has however put me on a six months Chinese medication program as well.

d. Oxygen Therapy
Started using a personal oxygen generator with effect from 8 March 2010 about 1 hour in the evening, 20 minutes per session. Richer oxygen does help in controlling the growth of the tumors. It also reduces fatigue.

e. Qigong
Started practicing qigong on 11 March 2010. Attend classes five times a week from 6.30am to 8am. Need to practice at least 3 hrs per day, in between juices.

Health Status
Current weight is around 69+kgs. Back and left shoulder pain still lingering. As I take up qigong, the main problem as before is trying to have more time for rests. I will need to reschedule my activities.

Verdict
Generally a good week with no major problems.

My First Qigong Class

Since using oxbile power in my castor oil enema, the night enema has been much more difficult to do. Not only the spasm is frequent but more intense making holding for a full 15 minutes difficult. The discharge is also smellier. As usual, the stomach feels a little bloated and farthing a bit more because of stomach gases. As a result I am eating a little less during lunch and dinner. I will have to compensate during other times by eating more frequent.

Now with the qigong class, I have created some timing problems for myself. Currently I take my homeopathy remedy from 8.30pm to 11pm, taking a capful every 15 mins. However with the qigong class from 8pm to 10pm, I will have problem taking my the homeopathy remedy as it would be very disruptive during the qigong lessons. I have to sort this out by Monday, before my next class.

The qigong association is based in Kajang and they have a number of centers throughout Klang valley. Senior Allan was the one coaching me as I was the only new student yesterday. He explained the history of this qigong and our grandmaster is from China. To convince and encourage me, he said two of their members who were cancer patients cured themselves practicing qigong at least 6 hours a day (basically eat, qigong and sleep) in just over three months. Of course there a some others who were not successful because they were lazy and did not practice other than coming to class. The qigong method employs the external energy around us to enhance the body. The energy around us is spent energy and they key is to tap the energy from the environment (not the energy around us) into the body. To do this, they employ a series of hand exercises and focusing the mind to the energy and parts of the body. My first exercise (nothing strenuous) taught to me was rather simple and but not so easy to do. After 30 mins of practice, I was feeling very warm and sweating. After a short break, the Senior taught me another exercise which also lasted about 30 mins. It is up to the individual on how long they want to do and I find 30 minutes at a time is quite suitable for me. All the instruction was given in Mandarin and due to my lack of proficiency in Mandarin, I could not remember and translate some of the terms.

Attending Qigong Class

Another routine day of juices and enemas. The back problem is still there and I am thinking how to deal with it besides exercising and having acupuncture. Finally after months of searching, I managed to hunt down a Qigong group that operates in Subang Jaya. I will be attending my first lesson tonight from 8pm-10pm. Master Soo said I should strive with diligence as it is helpful in healing my cancer.

Through a friend, I was offered to do database warehouse design for an insurance company but had to turn it down the last minute because of the short delivery time. The project management is very lose and timing is already out. Under such circumstances, it would demand a lot of time from me to attend meetings to get things right. At present I cannot commit and it would be best not to get involved. The money is good and I still have bills to pay. Sigh... But the next opportunity will come.

180 Days and Counting

Today marks the end of 180 days since the discovery of my tumors. For the past 6 months, I have been trying very hard to survive literally. Now that the stabilising phase have passed, I am now working towards the next six month. My current view is really short term and is to ensure that I survive 2010 first, taking small steps at a time.

As you know, I have introduced two additional complementary therapies for my treatment i.e. Oxygen Therapy and also Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Oxygen therapy entails the supply of 30% oxygen content in air directly over the nostrils which aid in recovery. The TCM prescribed to me by my acupuncturist is a general prescription to fight cancer. It performs cleansing and detoxing the body. The next six months is directed to reduce the tumors and like the first six months will be challenging.

The pain on my left shoulder is less painful and I hope it will go away be end of the week. However, the pain on my back after lying flat on the bed is still there. There is no pain when sitting or standing or lying on the side. The ulcers has reared its ugly head again. I have two mouth ulcers for the last two weeks. Last Saturday I ate the over baked rye bread made by my sister-in-law YC and now I also have a painful throat. I try at best to let these painful problems heal naturally.

Back To Normal

Yesterday towards 6pm, there was heavy thunderstorm and of course lightning. Sigh... My desktop network card was hit, the hub was hit and my daughter's notebook power cable was hit. This morning I took almost half day to figure out what was working and what was not and then went to the IT shop to purchase another network card for my desktop. I have been staying in Subang Jaya for over 20 years now and not once was my IT equipment hit. This year, I have been hit twice already! Looks like I have to install lightning arrester for my equipments.

I am back to my normal routine therapies. My back pain is normally felt when I wake up and after some exercises, the pain goes away. The left shoulder blade is still giving a little pain when moved. I noticed that my back pain is possibly weight induced. This is because I get the pain upon completion of my 20 minutes of oxygen therapy when I lie flat on the bed. Now I have to sleep exclusively on my right side. Hope this condition is only temporary.

Yesterday I did my first castor oil enema using oxbile powder at 3.15pm. However, I noted during my night enema, the coffee mixture that was push out from the rectum was a little redder then usual. It was also rather difficult to do. However, this morning the enema was back to usual. Anyway I always feel good after enemas. Otherwise I am OK.

Homepathy Therapy Update

This time, my trip to Singapore was tiring. The main reason was that I had to run an errand for Mama S. I have agreed to help her start the Gerson Therapy (GT) and as such I detoured a little to buy supplements for her. Those supplements are kept in glass bottles and it was rather heavy. I was sort of drained carrying those bottles.

Anyway after examining my blood test and radiologist reports, Dr Rama said he was happy with my progress and said he is confident of improving the situation. Notwithstanding the discovery of a new nodule, he said the important aspect now is ensure that the liver does not deteriorate. As expected, he started me with a new remedy to deal with the liver and tumors in general. This phase of treatment would probable go on for the next six months and recommended me to go for another scan in September 2010. I have finally managed to get my hand on the liver supplements and started taking it since yesterday.

My back pain and in particular my left shoulder pain are improving. So I will not be going for further acupuncture for the time being. I have been doing stretching and back exercising and it helps to relieve the pain. Mostly the pain are motion or pressure induced. My personal oxygen generator finally arrived and I started using it yesterday. Due to the constant flow of air, the month and nose is a little bit dry. I take the oxygen therapy in between juices, 20 minutes at a time.

Health Status @ 7 March 2010

I will post my status up a little earlier since I will be leaving for Singapore in the morning. New information are presented in italics.

Local Consultant: Vishuddi Lee
Treatment Started: 6 November 2009.
Consulting: Once every two months in Singapore. Next appointment 6 March 2010.
Medication Given : Phosphorus and Carsinosin (alternating between weekly), morning and evening tablet.

Will start to use a personal oxygen generator with effect from 8 March 2010 upon my return from Singapore. Richer oxygen does help in controlling the growth of the tumors. It also reduces fatigue.

Health Status
Current weight is around 69.7kgs. Back and left shoulder pain for almost two weeks now. It affects my sleep a little since the weight of my body does affect the muscles around the back. To overcome it, I have to sleep in different positions so as not to strain the muscles. A little uncomfortable at times. The pain is minimal when not sleeping.

Verdict
Hopefully it's only a muscle problem rather than a bigger problem. Am watching for growth of lumps, so far of which there were none. Keeping my fingers crossed. Otherwise a difficult but productive week.

Added Acupuncture Therapy

This morning, I continued with my acupuncture therapy on my left shoulder. Today I had applied much more amp towards the needles. Although it is painful, I am a firm believer no pain no gain. The pain did subside but as with previous days, I hope it now become painful as the day progresses. Most of the pain are derived from movements of the hands and body that is connected to that part of the shoulder. My acupuncturist reminded me to take the medication that he gave me. He said even the Lee family in Singapore takes that medication.

One other changes that I am making is that I will commence oxygen therapy when I come back from Singapore. I have ordered the Personal Oxygen Generator. Since I am not able to start my QiGong class for sometime to come, this is another recommended therapy that will help. It's easy and practical effortless to do.

Finally, I managed to meet Mama S (see my post on 26 February 2010) yesterday night. She looks rather healthy for a 72 year old lady, cheerful despite being told by the doctor that they cannot help her anymore. Earlier the family had enrolled her to a health clinic (sorry no names) in Malacca but from what I learned from her she is not following the therapy strictly. Although a vegetarian, she eats noodles, cakes, biscuits and all the vegetarian stuffs (which includes oil, sugar and salt). Furthermore she likes to drink tea, milk and soy bean. I told her if she wants to follow the Gerson Therapy she must give up most of what she is eating now. She seems oblivious to the spread of the tumor to her liver. Despite removing her breast and undergoing chemo, two nodules were detected in the liver and she is due for a scan today. I explained to her about the therapy and about he need to be strict and comply with the requirements. When she showed no urgency, I had to frightened her. Forgive me. I told her everybody dies but dying of cancer is the most painful! I hope she got my message. I am really keen to help her even though I have not recovered myself.

I happened to meet a 1980s ex-colleague at the organic restaurant and I told him I had cancer. He told me his wife had too, just detected the breast cancer. Well what can I say!

The Boxer

Today's title post was taken from Simon & Garfunkel's The Boxer as it describe the struggle of life and perseverance.

I have been having this left shoulder pain for about a week now. The back is a little stiff especially after getting up in the morning and after some stretching exercise it becomes a little better. The left shoulder by itself is not painful but because I often use my left hand and also when certain muscles that are connected to it is stretched, it becomes painful. I have been avoiding carrying or lifting with my left hand to give it more rests. Anyway I visited my acupuncturist for 20 years yesterday to get some acupuncture on my shoulders. He uses 8 needle points and the feed the needles with direct current, the strength of the current which you can control via a console. I have been going to him for such problems in the past and I will probably need three treatments. He also recommended me some medication when he learned of my cancer.

Of course having pain is a bad sign and uncomfortable for me. Lately I have also been experiencing some stomach fullness, too much gases and also not that hungry during lunch/dinner. When I try and eat faster I also feel like vomiting. I do feel hungry especially in between but when lunch and dinner time. When I first started the Gerson Therapy, I read in the book that patients normally experience such symptoms but it kind of arrive a little late for me.

I am still very upbeat about my health. Life goes on and I take each day at a time. My weight has stabilised to 69.7kg and my wife asked me not to be too concerned with my weight. I observed that if I eat all the recommend meals regularly, I would not have problem maintaining my weight.

Happy To Be Alive

From March 2010 onwards marks a new phase for me. Earlier months, the main aim was to just to survive the cancer and stabilize the situation. I think I have achieved that objective although I am a bit disappointed with the discovery of a new nodule.

I will have to wait to see what Dr Rama says this Saturday in Singapore for my next phase of Homeopathy treatment. As for the Gerson Therapy I am making some changes. I have ordered the Norwalk juicer. Well there are always different views on why spend this money but those are the least important, so I won't dwell into it. I have increased the frequency of my coffee enema to 4 time a day now.

Although fighting the cancer is my own fight, however, many parties are indirectly involved. The most affected party is actually my wife. Just imagine your loved one is struggling with death and you cannot offer any help other than providing emotional support. Even my other family members like my parents, brother and sister are also suffering, especially my mother. I can also see the tension is some of my close friends.

It would be a mistake to relax now. This is the time to double the efforts because the war has just begun. I may have won some little battles here and there but the war is far from over. Please hang on with me and thank you for your support.

A New Day

Yesterday I started the day with full of enthusiasm. After packing the juices, oatmeal and rye bread, I left for the hospital together with my sister. My appointment was 10am and by 11am, the CT scan was complete. However, it was not until 12.30pm I got the report. When I reached my mother's place, I quickly took lunch and headed back home. The Panadol did not seems to work and my eldest daughter's fever was rather high. So I quickly took her to the doctor and then to my mother's house so that she could be cared for. I then left for my daily marketing. Much to my disappointment, the apples for juicing has been out of stock for almost one month. I visited a number of organic shops and most do not sell apples. There is one shop that sells but not for juicing and it costs RM30 a kilo, almost RM6 a piece! Anyway I got hold of some old apples stock from the shop. By the time I got home, it was already 3pm. Prepared the 3pm juice and then prepared the Hippocrate soup. When I finished, it almost 4pm and so another round of juice. After washing the juicer, I quickly took my coffee enema and by the time I completed it, it's 5pm and another round of juice. It was only after this time I managed to post the results of my scan.

Anyway, I am now doing a review of my therapies. I am now doing two therapies, modified Gerson Therapy (GT) and Homeopathy. I started GT in October 2009 and it about 5 months now. Homeopath started in November 2009. As far as Homeopathy is concerned, if you remember in my earlier posts, I am currently on Phase I of the treatment. The medication given in this phase is to stop the growth of the tumor. In a way, the objective has been achieved since the results of the scan showed more or less no advancement except for the discovery of a new nodule. So I am now looking forward to the next phase of the treatment, to reduce the tumor.

As for GT, although I started the therapy much earlier, it was only recently I got almost the full range of supplements like lugol solution, pepsin and pancreatin. Two areas that need immediate improvement is the juicer and my coffee enema. The juicer that I am using now is not very suitable but almost the best I could get. It has already broke down once and the supplier said the juicer is not designed for the intensity of my juicing. There are two areas I think the juicer did not do very well. The first if the dryness of the pulp after juicing. I have already said in one of my earlier posts, the pulp after juicing is still wet. Last Sunday I took the carrot pulp and feed it back to the feeder and more juice came of it. I then repeated for a second time and still more juice came out of it! However, by this time, the outlet screen is already blocked. Of late I have discovered I have been spending about 15% more to get the same amount of juice. The second area is in terms of the quality of the juice, especially vegetable juice. I noted that by the time I completed the juicing, the juice is already starting to turn yellowish. This is definitely not quality juice. So I will invest in the mother of all juicers, the Norwalk Juicer. Model 275 costs US$2,495 + US$650 shipping, approximately RM11K. The company sells direct. It will arrive next week.

My coffee enema needs to be intensified. So I am now reverting to 4 times a day. Also I have not been strict with myself on the castor oil enema. I have not been doing on alternate day especially from the days leading to Chinese New Year and on days I have errands to run. Now that I got the ox bile powder, I should not have any more excuses.

As my friend Bobby was telling me, what is RM10K to spend on recovering your health. Many people would pay the same amount to slim down. I am also a little lucky as I bought the 36 critical illness insurance, though the amount is not that much but it helps. I just got the payment just before Chinese New Year.

CT Scan Update @ 1 March 2010

You may be wondering why I took so long to post the update. One of my friend called my directly from Saudia Arabia because he could not wait for my post. This time round, the scan was performed at Assunta Hospital which has a newer and higher resolution scan. We also enlarged the area of the scan to include the pelvis (not done previously). This scan will be compared to the 24 October 2009 scan. Well I got good and bad news. I will start off with the conclusions and details will be given later once I get more clarification.

Conclusion
1. Primary area - Kidney tumor, mass size about the same as that in October 2009.
2. Chest - Small and large (0.5cm to 1.5cm) observed in the mid and lower lungs area. However, the bigger two lymphnodes showed some reduction (from 3.0cm x 2.8cm to 2.6cm x 2.8cm and 4.4cm x 2.2cm to 1.8cm x 1.9cm). Noted a large nodule of about 3.5cm and 3.7cm in the right paravertebal showing central necrosis at T6 vertebra not found in previous study.

Going Forward
At the very least, things has remained about the same as that in October 2009. So I am now performing a review and I believe there are some areas that I will have to do better. Already I have set the replace the juicer. The next is my coffee enema. There are more areas to rework as well. Don't expect different results if you continue to do the same old things.

I am still very positive about this result though I am a little disappointed. According to my urologist, I should be writing my obituary by now but I am still alive and kicking. I will return!
