15 September 2009

I went to Selayang Hospital at about 3.40pm straight from my office. Since I did not get any referral letter from my doctors, I had to register at the Outpatient Department. The fee is RM1, still the same rate as charged way back in the 1970s. I don't think you can get to see GPs are this rate anywhere in the world.

There were lots of people waiting and by the time my turn came, it was almost 5pm. I took my CT scans (which costs me RM1,050, RM400 for the lung scan and RM650 for the abdomen scan) along and showed it to the doctor. She then asked my what I specifically want. I told her that I got a tumor in my right kidney and some nodes in my lungs and would like to be referred to the specialist clinics for further treatment.

After taking a look at my CT scans, she asked to be excused as she wanted to consult a senior doctor about my case. About 10 minutes later, she came back and said she would give me a referral letter to the Urology department. Meanwhile I will have to take some blood tests and also an x-ray. She wrote on a small slip of paper and the nurse directed me to the lab. Selayang Hospital is fully computerised. As approach the lab assistant to have my blood taken, he just key in my reference number and knew what to do. I then went over to the X-ray Department to have my chest taken. My only complain was that I was required to were their clothing which was shared.

After the x-ray, I went back to see the doctor and she told me to go for dinner and would call me as soon as the blood test results are know. I was surprised that this hospital actually make calls to their patients. Not bad I thought to myself. I drove to a nearby shopping complex and took my dinner. It was about 7.20pm when I received a call from the hospital and she told me to come to the clinic to collect my referral letter. I must say the service I received up to now is comparable to some of the private hospitals. I was impressed. My blood test results were good and my appointment with the Urologist is on 18 September 2009.
