Back Home Again

Chang was discharged from the hospital today. He did not sleep well last night and ate little today. However, he enjoys eating watermelon and was having some when I visited him.

There have been offers to help from readers, Tan Ai Wee and Anonymous. Actually, Chang needs to replace the 3 pints of blood given to him at the hospital. If you are able to donate blood at the hospital during office hours, Monday to Saturday (except public holidays), please contact me at upekahblogspot@gmail.com. Thank you, thank you to all of you for your kindness.

Chang has also read your comments and wishes to thank all of you for your prayers, words of comfort and help. A reader asked whether he is able to walk. Yes, he is able to make short trips to  the restroom with assistance.

Happy 55th Merdeka Day to all Malaysians! It is a long weekend. Rest, relax and rejuvenate!

  2. Visited Chang yesterday...he has lost much weight but noticed that he still have some good tinge of redness instead of paleness on his body. He sat on the sofa next to me for at least 15 min. Didnt say much sighed occassionally in pain. His legs aches and his mama and wife massaged for him. He ask for sorbet orange ice cream and cold watermelon. After a while he decided to get to bed to have a nap. Noticed he gave me a smile before he walked to the bed. He has cut his hair shorter than the time I met him at the organic vegetarian restaurant where we both sat together to have some food. Didnt talk much except I asked why keep the hair so long. He answered what's strong with long hair. And I told him ya it was an in-thing when guys were in their 20s then...I also had a boy-friend with such long hair but never dared invited him to visit home. I am sure my papa will give a nice long lecture to my friend and me. When there I told myself no tears instead smiles and laughter. I am proud that I could hold on till I get into the car to drive home and told my husband that night - it doesnt matter whatever problems we have the most important thing is loved ones to help and comfort us in terms of sickness. Chang is a brave man, so courageous to take this journey, a difficult one. Well it is September 2012 when we said goodbye it was 2009, it has been 36 months. Life is not the same as before but there is time given. Thanks.

  3. Thanks for the timely update. We continue to pray for Chang that he will be given strength and peace to walk this journey. Chang is someone who responded to the journey and not just gove up as most will find it easiest to do. Cancer is not anyone's picking by choice...the choice we have is to continue to persevere, not give up on ourselves and journey on. Even in the silence, Chang continue to make his presence felt. Blessed be him that touched so many lives, both known and unknown...a person like this would have lived life fully. Lest not we all pity Chang, by divine grace, he was given the opportunity to do good in this life. Pity those who never had a chance to do so or never dared chose to do so. What Chang has taught me is to persevere, never give up no matter what the odds, always take courage in yourself and carry that dignity no matter what position one holds. In life, it is not the wealth or the position that matters...he was given a chance to come to this awareness, albeit not the easiest of ways. We salute you, dear Chang, we will always remember you. This mortal journey will end one day for even the healthiest of us, whether gradually or worst still, suddenly. What matters most is your readiness to move on to the next phase of "life"...eternity. People say that when a person is at the point of death, the whole place is filled with devils who all combine in the attempt to make the person lose his soul. Be not afraid, Chang...be consoled that God's grace is with you as you have lived a good life.
